J.R. Cash was an American original. The son of an Arkansas farmer, he wore his hardscrabble roots on his sleeve. Cash loved the land and he loved its people; his songs on a steady-picked guitar gave voice to the voiceless. Cash wrote passionately about murder, trains, prison, revenge and redemption. He made us all feel like close, personal friends. His daughter Roseanne put it best: "He was the stuff of dreams." Johnny Cash didn't invent country music, but he sure reinvented it.
